What is sublimation?
The scientific definition of sublimation is a change directly from the solid to the gaseous state without becoming liquid. This chemical change is the most advanced method of image transfer.
These are the steps of how sublimation works to decorate items.
- A design is printed onto a special paper
- The paper is placed over/around/on the product
- Application of heat (heat press or mug press)
- The ink turns into gas when brought under heat
- Remove from heat and remove paper
- Transfer is complete
Is sublimation permanent?
Yes, the results is a permanent, full color image that won’t crack, peel or wash away from the product. The image is transferred into the product, so there is no texturing difference when you feel the product. Mugs are dishwasher safe.
